Since the beginning of my career in Financial Services everyone has told me that you need to hire an assistant. I truly believe that I should be the only person in my practice who interacts with my clients (if extenuating circumstances arise I have a backup). If you need me, I am here. When you call me, you will call my direct number. When you email me, you get a quick response. When you text me, you get a response from me directly.

I may not have all the answers, but I am very good at knowing the right people to go to to get the answers that you need.

About Michael

Michael met his beautiful wife in 2012 at a Carolina Club Young Professionals interest meeting. He can still remember that she wore a white blouse, black skirt, and red lipstick (she had just come from work). Because of her excitement about a poker/bourbone event, he remembers this vividly. 

They had a rough start, but he knew that they were meant to be in January 2014 when she texted “Happy New Year,” and they have been inseparable ever since.

Michael left prudential in January of 2014 and moved over to where his curent Broker Dealer (Lincoln Financial Securities) and it is not for everyone to try to start a new business and a new relationship in the same year, let a lone the same month. This is how he knows Nicole loves him, because she stood by him through a business change and the start of a new relationship. She is truly amazing!

In November of 2015 Michael got to marry the most beautiful woman in the world and his best friend! It was a fairytale type of wedding on a historic looking farm in Chapel Hill, NC. He was so happy to have most of his family in attendance, especially his grandparents. He is so glad that they got to meet Nicole, because family is everything!

Michael joined the board of the FPA of the Triangle as the NexGen Director in 2016… One of the biggest shifts in his career and how he operates his business is due to the Financial Planning Association. Who would ever think the trajectory of his career could have been changed by going to a Durham Bulls game? That game was one of the first meetings he attended for the FPA of the Triangle. He answered an email shortly thereafter and next thing he knew he was the NexGen Director. 

Joining the board was pivotal, because he was able to get a scholarship for his CFP coursework. In 2019 he became the President of the FPA of the Triangle, and in November took and passed the CFP exam. He is happy that he was able to call himself a CFP® professional before he finished up his final duties as President.

They had Zach in 2017, and wow did life change. You are never really prepared to have a child, or so he was told. Nicole and Michael feel like they were mostly prepared. Although, baby poop does not smell like vanilla yogurt like they tell you in the pre-baby classes you take at UNC. 

I am amazed at how fast the time flies now and cannot remember what I did with all the time I used to have. Watching him grow up and learn how to do things for himself is amazing! He looks at everything with the widest eyes and amazement. Nicole and I love spending as much time as we possible can with this little guy!

Michael has been working in the financial services industry since 2009, working for Prudential in the local agency distribution office. Prudential is where he started, after spending a couple of years figuring out what he wanted to do with his life. He had no idea it was the start of his lifelong career. 

His uncle got him the interview, he had been with Prudential for 30+ years. He was just excited they were going to give him a desk, phone and computer. Boy has he come a long way since then. He thanks Prudential for laying the groundwork and helping build his deep knowledge of life insurance and other protection products. 

Michael Whitman believes that collaboration is key in this industry. Having the ability to help my clients with anything financial that they need is the most important thing. Wouldn’t it be great if you were new in town or didn’t have a go to person for what you needed? 

That is why he started the Collaboration Nation Group. We are a group of Financial professionals who meet regularly to build our relationships and talk about how we can best help our clients.
